Governor Bush campaigned in 2000 on a large tax cut — the right thing to do — along with a 4% federal spending increase, his “compassionate conservatism” ideas. No one ever gave more than lip service to actually cutting back spending.

What we really need to push for is a federal government that is actually smaller, not just restraining its growth, a federal government that taxes you less because it actually does less!
