That is the Question??

I guess it is very hard to actually pinpoint where I lie on the political spectrum.   I think I am a Libertarian Conservative as my friend Snooper has posted about.  As many of us on the Conservative/Libertarian side see the GOP going more and more left every day and getting farther and farther away from the basic principles that had drawn us to the Grand Old Party.   I agree a lot with what Snooper posted, to a certain extent, I am not a really big fan of Ron Paul and his minions.   But there is much the GOP needs to address to get back many of the Libertarian wing of the party.   I do not think that in this day and age, a third party is a viable option, there is too many obstacles put upbut both the RNC and DNC.

So where does that leave us, the ones that tend to be a little more Libertarian and not as much just Republicans, but believe in principles and the Founding Father’s intent.  Make no mistake, both the DNC and RNC have amultitude of power hungry politicians that do not do what is best for the country, and do what they think will get them elected or the next donation.  They are mainly charlatans and none have a firm backbone or stand on principle.   I may not agree with all of Ron Paul’s ideas, but at least he stands by his principles.   Just look at Sen Specter.   In his speech he pretty much said that he changed party just so he would win the next election,  as he did in his early career by the way.

Again where does that leave us???   My brother worked for the IL GOP House many years ago.  And it pretty much made him disgusted with the whole political process.   Just think, “you never really want to see how they make sausage”.  And that is our political system.   Hate it or not.  That is what we have got.   We have too many that do not care and will only read a little here or there about what is going on in DC, and even less on what is going on in the local government.   Too many care about who will won the next American Idol or who gets kicked off of Survivor to carewhat is happening to our country.

What I  think we need is to try and get the Voters to actually give a damn about what happens.  Too many have lost faith in our political system and have just given up and could care less.  Apathy is everywhere,  and all theshenanigans that our trusted leaders do every year does not help.  The thing is how to get people more involved and motivated to look into what is going on around them.  I do not know exactly how to do that.  If anyone has any ideas , leave a comment.

And then we on the right side of the aisle seem to always fight and stab each other in  the backs.  I know that we need to have a big tent in the GOP, but does that mean that we should leave the principles of Limited Government, Strong Defense and more Liberty at the door???  The Libertarians fight with the Neo-Cons, the paleo-cons fight with the Religious Right.   This needs to stop, or we will be left so far behind and be walking the wilderness for a long time to come.    We need to find the things we all agree on and stop fighting about the minutia.   There is not going to be any Political Party or Politician that I am going to agree with %100.  And I doubt that anyone out there will find one that will.  So we need to join together and fight against the real enemy, the Left in this country that wants to drag America into a European Socialist state, which Obama has be doing at a fast pace.

Memorial Day

I know this blog is supposed to be about Reclaiming Conservatism, but I needed to post this here also.  This weekend is Memorial Day Weekend and Memorial day is on Monday.   People will be BBQing it up and having fun with friends and family.  But this is not just a day for parties and golf as I am going to do.   This is a weekend to pay tribute to our finest.   We must never forget it is the United States Military that protects our freedoms that we take for granite every day.   So over the weekend have fun and always remember those that lost their lives protecting us and the American Dream.  Also those that are out there now protecting us and are far away from friends and family in God Forsaken places.   They are truly heroes and need to be given all the respect for what they do and what they give up to be our front line of defense.   No matter if you are for the War on Terror or not, you have to give respect to those that protect your right to protest that War.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.

It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the soldier, who salutes the flag, who serves under the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag….

Pay Attention!

I’m talking to myself in the headline. It’s pretty bad when the person who maintains the Blogiversary Database doesn’t realize that one of his blogs — this one — is celebrating it’s Blogiversary. That’s right, Reclaim Conservatism celebrates it’s first year today.

Thanks to everyone who contributes here, and especially to everyone who takes time to comment, or just stop by.

We are working to make this a better site, a true go-to destination for information and action regarding conservatism.

While I have your attention, I’d like to invite you to take a look at the Reclaim Wiki. After you look, I’d like to invite you to do a few more things.

  • Sign up and help us grow the project.
  • Tell others about what we are doing at the Wiki.
  • A little link love is always appreciated.

Thanks again for visiting. We look forward to seeing you again and again in year two.

Work on the Wiki continues. As I work on some of the pages and sections and behind the scene stuff I am coming out here to ask a question.

Stix had a suggestion, that we add a section with information and links to groups and organizations that promote conservative ideas. What groups would you suggest? Please put your suggestions in the comments.

Reclaim Conservatism Wiki

I told you I wanted to spend more time developing this site, and boy have I. I spent several hours last night setting up the Reclaim Conservatism Wiki.

The wiki is being set up to be a repository of conservative information and resources. You are encouraged to help with this project by adding and editing information there, or by sending your information to: wiki at reclaimconservatism dot com. At the very least, please take a look and bookmark the site. Point others to it too, if you will.

I am really looking for people who are familiar with working on a wiki. Your help will be invaluable.

Well, I’m headed over there now for a few minutes. Join me?

Focus

I mentioned the other day on my blog that I need to spend more time here at Reclaim Conservatism. I plan on doing that and working harder at developing this site the way I envision it.

Let me lay out a few thoughts and ideas.

First, let me mention that I’ve turned off registration. I was getting way too many spam entries (as many as 25 a day). That doesn’t mean we’re not looking for others interested in writing. We would love to have more authors who are interested in posting here. If you would like to contribute, and haven’t already registered, drop me an email at lakelandjim at gmail dot com. You can also contact me (@brightandearly) via twitter.

While I think that a wide range of topical material is great, I would like to promote a bit narrower focus here. I would encourage all the contributors here (present, future, and me) to concentrate on posts that center around the idea of reclaiming conservatism. In fact I would like this site to the go-to site for articles, suggestions, ideas, ideals, encouragement, news, and anything else related to reclaiming conservatism.

Develop and use the front end. — If you look at the address of this blog (who does that?) you will notice that it is http://reclaimconservatism.com/blog/. I have some thoughts and plans for developing the main domain to encourage and equip conservatives to take action. Your ideas are welcomed and coveted! If you are interested in helping in this area please contact me.

Conservatism really hasn’t changed. The GOP, the party most associated with conservative values, has lost it’s focus. It is my considered opinion that the core values held by those who claim to be conservatives are as strong (and as relevant) as ever. I believe that a possible issue with the conservative banner is that we try to substitute policies and programs for values. Let’s rally round the values, the rest will take care of itself.

Addendum: I forgot to mention comments. We want comments! Add your comments, they are open on all but older posts. Be patient if they are held (new commenters) in moderation. I’ll get to them.

Beware Of Obamanomics

Obama economic plan can be summarized as a failed plan before he even unleashes it. His plan has been done before and has failed before and will always fail. History teaches us that using Keynesian Policies will fail every time they are used. Just look at FDR, Carter and the policies of Japan in the 90s. Here is a very good article by Tom Woods from the Ludwig von Mises Institute that explains how this will never work and the fallacy of the “Green Jobs” that Obama’s agenda are pushing through the government.
