Changey Hopey Creepy Pledgey

The personality cult presidency of Barack Obama starts in just a few short hours, but some celebrities just couldn’t wait to pledge their allegiance, not to the flag, but to The One™

Granted, some of the things they mention are worthy goals that deserve peoples work and effort. I don’t deride the idea of doing good things or determining to make choices that improve your life and the lives of others, instead it is the eerie devotion to the idea that now with this president we can finally shape our country the way it should be.

I was talking to a co-worker yesterday about this phenomenon. He asked me what I thought drove the idea that Barack Obama could, simply by his election, bring about all of this change. I told him that I believe that a big part of that is the fact that our soon-to-be-trained-on-the-job President is such a blank slate with no record, no history, and no demonstrable core values, that it allows every individual to project on to him the things that they hope for. His candidacy and election remind me of the UPS Whiteboard commercials — you can write or erase whatever you want to get whatever you want and to make things look the way you want.

Frances Romero writing for Time said,

Remember when we used to pledge allegiance to a flag? Not in Barack Obama’s nation. On the eve of his grandly coordinated, $150 million Inaugural, celeb power couple Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore released a video full of their Hollywood friends and colleagues pledging to Obama to “be the change” that so many want to see with his incoming administration.

And concluded with this,

Overall, there’s some good stuff in here: Smile, mentor someone, drive slower, conserve gas. Steer clear of the last 20 seconds though. Fifty celebrities pledging in unison to serve our new President from an elaborate Brady Bunch grid, is creepy. A little cult-ish even.

Ace remarks,

If you get sick of it, skip to the end, to see a cultish chant to “serve our president” from all of the various B- and C- and F- list celebrities on display.

Remember when they put out a similar video after 9/11? Nope, me neither.

Curt at Flopping Aces observes,

Check out this video of the many ignorant celebrities who have over the last 8 years done whatever they could to tear down our President, stand in his way of making any progress to protect this country and its future, and insulted him at every chance.

[...]

The whole video is embarrassing but in the final moment when the image pulls out and eveyone of these nimrods is a part of the Obama portrait…then it became downright creepy. You just can’t describe this cult of personality any other way other then creepy and scary.

Andrew Breitbart sums it up well at his new Big Hollywood digs.

Remember this video: It is a instructive relic of the era of celebrity decadence and boutique anti-Republican activism under President Bush. It is a sickening display that they want fast and easy absolution for having comported themselves like ill-behaved children for eight difficult and war-torn years.

Good luck, President Obama. The rest of you can go to hell.

Years ago (this video is from 1969) Red Skelton offered a look a what the real pledge should mean. Take a look, especially if you watched the first one.

Here is a good article about the Catholic Organization that hired Obama as a Community Organizer.   A majority of Catholics would be appalled at where there donations go to.  It is no wonder Obama joined a Black Liberation Theology Church.   It pretty much goes along with the organization that hired him to agitate the government.

Obama, ACORN, and Catholic Action

A the “Catholics for Obama” blog, the thesis that Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin is smearing Catholic Action is bruited. Unsaid there is the connection between the bishops an Alinskyian organizing that fostered Obama’s political career.

By Stephanie Block

Over at the Catholics for Obama blog, the headline screams, “Palin Continues to Smear Catholic Action.” This preposterous thesis has been crafted from her comments about Barak Obama’s past as a community organizer.

….

Over the past 30 years, the Catholic Campaign for Human Development has given millions of dollars from Catholic donations to these groups. That’s a lot of money going to train people in a very distinctive way of looking at the world and its problems.

Alinsky’s writings contain a number of disturbing premises:

“The third rule of the ethics of means and ends is that … the end justifies almost any means.”

“The seventh rule of the ethics of means and ends is that generally success or failure is a mighty detriment of ethics. … There can be no such thing as a successful traitor, for if one succeeds, he becomes a founding father.”

“The tenth rule of the ethics of means and ends is that you do what you can with what you have and clothe it with moral garments. … Moral rationalization is indispensable at all tunes of action whether to justify the selection or the use of ends or means.”

“An organizer working for change … does not have a fixed truth — truth to him is relative and changing.”
Book cover of
The book from which those “rules” are taken is called Rules for Radicals and it opens with the disturbing lines: “What follows is for those who want to change the world from what it is to what they believe it should be. The Prince was written by Machiavelli for the Haves on how to hold power. Rules for Radicals is written for the Have-Nots on how to take it away.”

In The Prince, Machiavelli makes it clear that he believes the moral law does not apply to leaders. He says, for example: “So you see a wise ruler cannot, and should not, keep his word when doing so is to his disadvantage, and when the reasons that led him to promise to do so no longer apply. Of course, if all men were good, this advice would be bad; but since men are wicked and will not keep faith with you, you need not keep faith with them…But it is essential to know how to conceal how crafty one is, to know how to be a clever counterfeit and hypocrite.” (54) Elsewhere, he writes: “So a ruler…should do what is right if he can; but he must be prepared to do wrong if necessary.” (55)

This is Alinsky’s model, rewritten for “the people.” It’s the antithesis of Catholic teaching. It cannot, therefore, be used to promote Catholic Action.

Contemporary Alinskyian networks, far from repudiating Alinsky, have built upon his work: Mary Beth Rogers writes, “All participants in the Industrial Areas Foundation [the first Alinskyian network, founded in 1940] national training programs are given a reprint of a 1933 article by John H. Randall, Jr. titled ‘The Importance of Being Unprincipled’. …The thesis is that because politics is nothing but the ‘practical method of compromise,’ only two kinds of people can afford the luxury of acting on principle…everyone else who wants to be effective in politics has to learn to be ‘unprincipled’ enough to compromise in order to see their principles succeed.”
Civic action predicated on “truth by consensus” is the antithesis of Catholic truth. It cannot, therefore, be used to promote Catholic Action.

Catholic social teaching has never supported socialism. In fact, Pius XI writes “No one can be at the same time a sincere Catholic and a true socialist.” The work of Alinskyian organizations cannot be considered – by any stretch of the imagination – to be Catholic Action.

By funding the Alinskyian networks, Catholics have become practical allies of the very groups they profess to oppose in the public square.
The second political problem with the CCHD collection is much worse, however. Not only does CCHD fund people whose goals are antithetical to Catholic Action but it provides the vehicle through which Catholics are systematical educated to work against Catholic Action.—-Spero News

Read the whole article.   It is an eye opener for Catholics and also the general public of what Obama’s days as a Community Organizer was.   This was followed by Ayers and Obama’s Annenberg Foundation’s  organization that tried to take over the Chicago School System.    They wanted to join groups such as ACORN and other Alinskyian organization with the schools in Chicago.   So they could have their own socialistic school programs to indoctrinate the kids in Chicago.   Alinski would be proud.  And as we have found out, Alinksy’s son admires Obama’s use of Alinsky’s oraganization in the Obama Presidential Campaign.
