Obama Forces GM CEO to resign

On March 29, 2009, in Uncategorized, by stix1972

What in the world has this country become, where a President can force a CEO of a Private company to resign???  This is not the function of the Federal Government.  The Federal Government does not control Private companies and should have no say in who is the CEO ot who should get a job in a Private Business.

GM CEO resigns at Obama’s behest

The Obama administration asked Rick Wagoner, the chairman and CEO of General Motors, to step down and he agreed, a White House official said.

On Monday, President Barack Obama is to unveil his plans for the auto industry, including a response to a request for additional funds by GM and Chrysler. The plan is based on recommendations from the Presidential Task Force on the Auto Industry, headed by the Treasury Department.

The White House confirmed Wagoner was leaving at the government’s behest after The Associated Press reported his immediate departure, without giving a reason.—Politico

So much for our reputation in the world

On March 18, 2009, in Uncategorized, by stix1972

All throughout the campaign Obama was telling us that he would repair our reputation with our allies in the world.  Well, Team Obama has snubbed Prime Minster Brown and gave him the DVD of the month club as a present as Brown gave Obama a serious gift.  The worst part of that is that Gordon Brown does not like to watch movies because of his poor vision and hardly watches movies in the first place.   But even before this gigantic gaffe, team Obama snubbed the members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Belgian Senate.   They were sent an invitation to come to the US Embassy for the Crowning of the One as the next Ruler of America, but later got dis-invited.

What is it with Team Obama wanting to have tea and meetings with our enemies like Iran and asking Russia to help us, but snubs our allies.  I thought that they were going to repair our standing in the world.

Not Welcome at the U.S. Embassy

Three weeks ago, all the members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Belgian Senate received an invitation of the US Embassy in Brussels to attend the inauguration of Barack Hussein Obama at the Embassy on 20 January. Senators Karim Van Overmeire and Freddy Van Gaever, both belonging to the Vlaams Belang (VB) party, the largest party in Flanders, the Dutch-speaking northern half of Belgium, accepted the invitation.

On the very morning of the inauguration, however, the secretary of the two VB senators received a phone call from the U.S. Embassy. The embassy told her that the invitation of the VB politicians was “a mistake” and requested them “not to come.”

….

“Never in my tours of service have I ever heard of any political party’s representative, especially those members who are part of the foreign policy machinery of the government, being ‘disinvited’ after a formal embassy invitation had been proffered; it flies in the face of diplomatic protocol and good judgment.

“The closest similar incident that I recall happened after the election of Reagan in 1984, and there were questions raised within the embassy about inviting the head of the Fremskrit (‘Progressive’) Party to the inaugural celebration because of his very strong opposition to Third World immigration into Norway. In the end, Karl I. Hagen was invited, for it was considered improper, and a violation of protocol not to do so.

“The decision to ban the members of Vlaams Belang to the inaugural viewing had to have come from Washington. No ambassador – at least no perceptive one – wishes to burn his bridges to the legislative body of the nation to which he is accredited; aside from being stupid, it is counterproductive in fulfilling his objectives.”—Brussels Journal

Nice.  Starting us out on the right foot.   I wonder when he will snub our best ally Australia???

Is Obama going to follow in FDR’s foorsteps

On January 11, 2009, in Uncategorized, by stix1972

FDR’s policies help prolong the Depression and only when WWII started did the Depression end.    FDR’s policies only hurt the economy and it is looking like Obama wants to redo the same policies that made the Depression last longer than it actually would have.   The free markets will correct itself if it is left alone, but when the government interferes it only exacerbates the downturn and will prolong the slower economy.  And Obama’s first thing that he wants to do is replay the detrimental policies that FDR put into place.

FDR’s policies prolonged Depression by 7 years, UCLA economists calculate

Two UCLA economists say they have figured out why the Great Depression dragged on for almost 15 years, and they blame a suspect previously thought to be beyond reproach: President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

After scrutinizing Roosevelt’s record for four years, Harold L. Cole and Lee E. Ohanian conclude in a new study that New Deal policies signed into law 71 years ago thwarted economic recovery for seven long years.

“Why the Great Depression lasted so long has always been a great mystery, and because we never really knew the reason, we have always worried whether we would have another 10- to 15-year economic slump,” said Ohanian, vice chair of UCLA’s Department of Economics. “We found that a relapse isn’t likely unless lawmakers gum up a recovery with ill-conceived stimulus policies.”

In an article in the August issue of the Journal of Political Economy, Ohanian and Cole blame specific anti-competition and pro-labor measures that Roosevelt promoted and signed into law June 16, 1933.

“President Roosevelt believed that excessive competition was responsible for the Depression by reducing prices and wages, and by extension reducing employment and demand for goods and services,” said Cole, also a UCLA professor of economics. “So he came up with a recovery package that would be unimaginable today, allowing businesses in every industry to collude without the threat of antitrust prosecution and workers to demand salaries about 25 percent above where they ought to have been, given market forces. The economy was poised for a beautiful recovery, but that recovery was stalled by these misguided policies.—-UCLA Newsroom

Obama and Camelot

On November 18, 2008, in Like-minded, by stix1972

This is from my mom, she was quoted at NRO

Interesting post at the Media Blog on NRO:

Don’t Call It ‘Camelot’ [Greg Pollowitz]

An insight from MB reader Julia.

In reference to this quote from this post on the latest Kurtz column . . .

“Those of us too young to have known JFK’s Camelot are going to have our own giddy Camelot II to enrapture and entertain us,” Kurt Andersen writes.

. . . Julia responds:

I’m old enough to remember that it wasn’t called “Camelot” until after JFK was shot.

It was “Camelot” because it was tragically cut short. People need to think about what they are wishing on Obama.

Hillary to be SOS???

On November 18, 2008, in Uncategorized, by stix1972

At least that is what the Guardian UK is saying. I am beginning to wonder if an Obama administration is going to be more of a Clinton II administration rather than a Dhimmi Carter II administration. Obama has 31 of the 47 Move.gov advisers are Clintonistas . I am just wondering why he is doing this, and what the people that voted for him are going to say???? They voted against Hillary in the Primaries and wanted someone other than a Clinton in the White House. But Obama is tapping all of Clinton lackeys and insiders for all his Change. Does that seem like change to you????

Hillary Clinton to accept Obama’s offer of secretary of state job

President-elect Barack Obama reaching out to former rivals to build a broad coalition administration

Hillary Clinton plans to accept the job of secretary of state offered by Barack Obama, who is reaching out to former rivals to build a broad coalition administration, the Guardian has learned.

Obama’s advisers have begun looking into Bill Clinton’s foundation, which distributes millions of dollars to Africa to help with development, to ensure that there is no conflict of interest. But Democrats do not believe that the vetting is likely to be a problem.—Guardian UK

Obama’s grandma dies

On November 3, 2008, in Uncategorized, by stix1972

This will not be a political post.  Obama’s grandma died in Hawaii.  Wahtever you think of Obama he is a human being and has feelings. It was great to see that he was able to visit his grandma before her death.  I did not go and see my grandpa as much as I should have, I thought that he would get better adn did not want to see him in the hopital. This along with one of Obama’s Campaign manager’s heart atack also, he must be devestated.  And also Durbins’s daughter death.  I remember when my grandma and grandpa died.  It was one of the sadest days of my life when my grandma died. We thought that she would live forever, because she was always there for us and helped shape me to be who I am today.  My thoughts and prayers will also be with Obama’s family today.

Obama’s grandmother dies of cancer in Hawaii

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama‘s grandmother died of cancer, he said in a statement on Monday, a little more than a week after Obama interrupted the White House race to say goodbye to her in Hawaii.

“It is with great sadness that we announce that our grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, has died peacefully after a battle with cancer,” Obama said in a joint statement with his sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng. “She was the cornerstone of our family, and a woman of extraordinary accomplishment, strength, and humility.”

Dunham helped raise Obama from the age of 10 while his mother was working in Indonesia, and Obama took an emotional 22-hour trip to Hawaii to visit her on October 23 and 24.

The Content Of His Character

On June 22, 2008, in Uncategorized, by GM Roper

In August of 1963, a muggy, sweltering day, a Senior at Mt. Vernon High School stood by the reflecting pool between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument.  The student was only one of many many thousands that day, gathered in the hopes that some day there would be peace between white and black Americans.  That student was me, and I was less than a month from my 17th Birthday.

As a 6th grader I witnessed the hostility and hatred of my fellow whites when Central High School in Little Rock was integrated.  I cringed when called “nigger-lover” by some of my school mates who had never gone to school with blacks or ever associated with them or maybe even never knew one.  You see, I grew up in the Army, my dad was a career officer and the Military had been integrated by President Truman in 1948.  Integration was all I knew and I had no problems with it.

But, I digress, I stood with the thousands and listened to the tenor voice of Martin Luther King.  As his voice rang out, this phrase in particular struck me, as it still does 45 years later:

“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”

Judged by the content of their character.  What a concept that is, when at the time, so many were judged by the color of their skin, the region they came from or the god that they worshiped, should not be judged by these things, but by their character.

And so we have arrived at today, having been through tumult, asassinations, riots and slow but positive growth, to a point where African Americans are elected by solid majorities to office in the south, where the bastions of hatred have been ground down, but unfortunately, where there are also those who would keep the races apart (Jessie, Al, are you reading this?) and those who depend on anger and hostility to keep their names in light.

We have had African Americans as Secretary of State, as Generals and Admirals, as Presidents of large Corporations, and now, a black American is running for President of the United States and it looks like he will get the nomination from the Democrat Party.  Yet, in my opinion, the content of their character is still important.

Barack Obama proclaimed he would pull out of Iraq immediately, and now he says he won’t.  He said that he would be using public financing for his race, and now he won’t.  He has said that NAFTA was anathema, and now all of a sudden, it isn’t.  He has attended a church where some of the most vile racist comments made from a pulpit have rung forth, and now he says that wasn’t the Jeremiah Wright he knew.  He has associated with, and benefited from associations with an admitted but unconvicted urban terrorist.  He has manipulated opposition off of the ballot in order to win elections.  And he has said, in spite of no one making this association BUT him, that the opposition will play the race card.

The content of his character has been weighed.

And has been found wanting!
